Compare Different Sports Field Sizes
Pickleball venue:
Judging from the overall size, the pickleball venue belongs to the category of “medium to small”. The standard pickleball field is rectangular, 24 feet (about 7.32 meters) long and 17 feet (about 5.18 meters) wide, with a total area of about 37.6 square meters. The field is divided into two halves bounded by the center line. Each half is composed of a “non-volley area” (commonly known as the “kitchen”) near the net and a batting area at the rear. The width of the non-volley area is 7 feet (about 2.13 meters). This area prohibits players from volleying before the ball lands. It is the core embodiment of the pickleball rule.
Tennis court:
In contrast, the size of the tennis court is significantly larger. The standard singles tennis court is 78 feet long (about 23.77 meters) and 27 feet wide (about 8.23 meters), with a total area of about 195.6 square meters, which is more than 5 times that of the pickleball court; The width of the doubles court has been increased to 36 feet (about 10.97 meters), and the area has been further expanded. The tennis court is not only longer as a whole, but also has complex partitions such as the tee area, the center line, and the sideline. The length of the tee area is 21 feet (about 6.4 meters), which matches the sports characteristics of tennis that require more running space and stronger explosive power.

Badminton court:
The badminton court has the characteristics of ”narrow and long". The standard doubles badminton court is 44 feet long (about 13.4 meters), 20 feet wide (about 6.1 meters), and covers an area of about 81 square meters, which is more than twice the width of the pickleball court; the width of the singles court is reduced to 17 feet (about 5.18 meters), which is the same as the width of the pickleball court. The key area of the badminton court is the “serve line”, which is 13.4 feet (about 4.06 meters) from the net, and there is a distinction between the “front serve line” and the “back serve line”, which is compatible with the rhythm of badminton that focuses on quick response and short-range attack and defense.
Table tennis court:
The table tennis venue is "mini". The standard table tennis table is 9 feet long (about 2.74 meters) and 5 feet wide (about 1.525 meters). The actual sports area needs to reserve enough space around the table (usually 1.5-2 meters are required for each side). Even so, the overall footprint is still much smaller than the pickleball venue. The table tennis table is divided into areas by the center line, sideline, and end line. The serve needs to fall on the diagonal tee. Its compact size determines that the movement depends more on the fine control and rapid response of the hands.
In comparison, it can be seen that the size of the pickleball field is between table tennis, badminton and tennis. It does not require the vast running space of a tennis court, and it can accommodate multiple people to interact more than table tennis and badminton courts. This “moderate" size design is an important reason why pickleball takes into account fun and ease of use, so that it can adapt to a variety of venue scenes such as community squares and school playgrounds, and become a sport that people of different ages can participate in.
